How to Prepare for IELTS Test All Over Pakistan (Online)
IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, assesses your English proficiency based on receptive skills (listening and reading) and productive skills (writing and speaking). It offers two categories: General and Academic.
Academic Test
- Writing
- Speaking
- Reading
- Listening
The General IELTS test is required for those moving to English-speaking countries for PR or work, while the Academic IELTS is for higher education or specific courses. It’s crucial to confirm which exam you need before registering. The Listening test, your first, lasts 40 minutes, Reading takes 60 minutes, Writing is also 60 minutes, and Speaking lasts 11-14 minutes. Listening, Reading, and Writing are conducted in one session of 2 hours 40 minutes without breaks, while Speaking may occur the same day or within seven days, depending on your IDP or British Council schedule. The Listening test consists of four sections, increasing in difficulty, with 40 questions to answer while listening to the audio. You’ll have 10 extra minutes to transfer answers to the provided answer sheet. For Reading, the General test includes simpler texts, while the Academic test has three complex passages, both requiring answers to 40 questions directly on the answer sheet. Writing comprises two tasks: Task 1 involves letter writing for General (formal, informal, or semi-formal) or summarizing charts/graphs for Academic, while Task 2 requires an essay for both. Task 1 has a 150-word minimum, and Task 2 has a 250-word minimum, with penalties for falling short. Speaking is a one-on-one, recorded interaction with three parts: an introduction and short Q&A, a 1-2 minute monologue on a given topic (with 1 minute to prepare), and a discussion based on the topic. Stay relaxed and speak confidently. For guidance and registration, consider enrolling to Star Global Advisors.

IELTS Test Pattern
The IELTS 2023 test pattern is formulated by Educational Testing Service (ETS) and the British Council, with the test conducted by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, and Cambridge English Language Assessment. The purpose of the IELTS test is to evaluate a candidate’s proficiency in English, reflecting its usage in daily life—whether in study, work, leisure, or social settings. There are two versions of the IELTS test: IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. Both versions are graded on the unique IELTS 9-band scale. Each test comprises four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. While the Listening and Speaking modules remain the same for both versions, the Reading and Writing sections differ. The total test duration is 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Listening, Reading, and Writing tests are conducted in a single session, while the Speaking test can be scheduled either on the same day or within seven days before or after the other modules. For the Speaking test, candidates participate in a one-on-one session to assess their English communication skills. This involves a real-life conversation with an examiner (who may not be a native English speaker). The interaction is recorded and later evaluated by certified IELTS examiners to ensure accurate assessment.
On the test day of the IELTS 2023 exam, candidates take the Listening, Reading, and Writing tests consecutively, without any breaks between these sections. These components always follow the same sequence as outlined in the IELTS 2023 test pattern, with the Speaking module conducted separately. According to the IELTS test pattern 2023, the Speaking module can be scheduled on the same day after a break or within seven days before or after the other three tests, depending on the test center’s schedule. The Speaking test is a one-on-one session designed to assess a candidate’s overall English communication skills. It involves a real-life conversation with an examiner to evaluate proficiency. The session is recorded to ensure a detailed and accurate assessment. Test results are based on the candidate’s overall performance across all sections of the IELTS test. The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a globally recognized test for assessing English language proficiency. The test is structured to evaluate key skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. It caters to individuals aiming to study, work, or migrate abroad. IELTS scores are accepted by over 10,000 organizations worldwide, including universities, government departments, employers, immigration authorities, and professional bodies, making it a trusted standard for English language assessment.
Is There Any Eligibility Criteria for Appearing in IELTS? There are no specific eligibility criteria set by the IELTS exam conducting bodies. However, the selection process may vary depending on the university or organization where a candidate plans to apply. It is important for aspirants to check the specific application requirements of their chosen institutions or organizations. Candidates have the flexibility to choose an IELTS test date based on their convenience and the availability of seats. The IELTS test is conducted throughout the year, with 48 test dates scheduled annually. For those aiming to achieve a 7+ band score, preparation and guidance are key to success.
Yes, candidates can retake the IELTS test as many times as they wish. There is no limit to the number of attempts; however, candidates must register and pay the test fee for each attempt. It is advisable to review and improve weak areas before retaking the test to achieve a better score.
The IELTS test score is valid for a period of two years from the date of the test. After this period, the score will no longer be accepted by universities, employers, or immigration authorities. Candidates should ensure they use their test results within this validity timeframe.
